Homemade Doggie Treats
Whilst sitting in the waiting room at the vets one morning with one of our three dogs an elderly lady came in with her terrier and sat next to me. We got talking and she told me how she made her own dog treats for her pet , I asked her if she would mind sharing the recipe ... ............and here it is !!
Our dogs love them !!
Makes 400g of treats
- 200g whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup melted bacon fat or olive oil
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup cold water
- Sprig of fresh mint
- Sprig of fresh parsley
- 1/2 beef stock cube crumbled
Preheat the oven to 220 º. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and mix by hand until dough forms. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky. Add more bacon fat or water if the dough is too stiff. Roll out onto a floured surface, to a thickness of just under 2cm. Cut into small bars or alternatley just make little balls in your hand without rolling out the dough and transfer to a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Turn the oven off, flip the biscuits, and place back in the oven until cool (this will further crisp them).
Treats can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
